Historic Board of Review
The Marietta Historic Board of Review was created by Marietta Municipal Ordinance (7-8-8-080) to assist the Downtown Marietta Development Authority in considering applications for changes to buildings within the Historic District. (The Historic District is defined in Section 7-8-8-020 of the Marietta Municipal Code. It is within the downtown Marietta district, but considerably smaller.)
The Historic Board of Review is composed of eleven members, which includes the seven members of the Marietta Historic Preservation Commission as appointed by the City Council, two property owners selected from the membership of the Downtown Marietta Development Authority, and two business owners selected from the membership of the Downtown Marietta Development Authority. Members serve their terms without pay. Their scope of duties includes preservation, relocation and demolition of historic buildings, construction of new buildings, ensuring visual compatibility factors (such as height, proportion, shapes, scale, etc.) and approving exterior changes to paint colors, signs, awnings, etc. within the District.
